Bugge Wesseltoft & Henrik Schwarz Duo (NO/DE)
Friday Sep. 10 – Folken at 21:00
A truly outstanding and unique electronic-acoustic collaboration featuring two internationally celebrated artists. BUGGE WESSELTOFT & HENRIK SCHWARZ: Jazz & Electronic uniquely merges on a high innovative level, based on improvisation and raw creative live sampling.
Even the two artists came to international fame for quite opposite skills, one being an honoured jazzpianist, the other a highly demanded electronic producer, their foundations lay in the same musical background: the intense music of Miles Davis, Bill Evans and Sun Ra, the productions of influencial house and techno pioneers like Laurent Garnier, Francois Kervorkian and Moritz von Oswald. These influences are the common basis of SCHWARZs and WESSELTOFTs tasteful approach to modality and energy, melodies and rhythms.
Norwegian piano maestro BUGGE WESSELTOFT, pioneer of the electronic jazz movement and recently standing for celebrated intimate solopianoconcerts, one day teamed up with one of the worlds best and most looked after producer in the electronic music genre named Henrik Schwarz. In early 2009 the artists met for an improvised and therefore unique concert exploring their ambient approach to jazz and the arts of electronic music. For both, WESSELTOFT and SCHWARZ, this night opened up a new chapter of unique musical individualism inside an creative ensemble. They are recently recording an album for a release in spring 2010.
Which is the perfect way to describe the way they work together: WESSELTOFTs harmonic chords and strong melodies are being send to his partners workstation. On the fly sampling and effective looping leads to layers and complex textures filling up the room with simple beauty. SCHWARZ also adds light percussion fragments, strong rhythmic patterns. The call and response feel of their mainly improvised electronic-acoustic music and ambience soundscapes keeps the listeners tension all night long. This show is an audiovisual experience with the music being perfectly underlined by a tasteful modern livevisuals performance.
