Nils Henrik Asheim (NO)

Saturday Sep. 11 – Domkirkeplassen at 17:30

Nils Henrik Asheim (b.1960) is one of Norway’s most prolific and recognized composers. He combines his work with a career as a performer on the organ and piano, as well as regularly collaborating with other artists on projects that integrate improvisation and/or theatrical elements. Nils Henrik Asheim has been commissioned from all major Norwegian festivals and is regularly performed by the national symphony orchestras.

Vegar Sandholt is the carillonneur at both the Oslo City Hall and and Bærum City Hall. He was born in 1967, educated as organist and choir director from the Norwegian Academy of Music. He studied at The Scandinavian Carillon School in Denmark for seven years. In July 2004 Vegar Sandholt hosted the World Carillon Congress that took place in Oslo. He is frequently asked to teach and to perform in Norway and abroad.

Together, Vegard Sandholt on carillon and Nils Henrik Asheim on electronics will perform Asheim’s 30 minutes composition RESONANS. From the tower of Stavanger Cathedral the sound of the carillon is transferred to loudspeakers on the rooftops of two buildings around the Cathedral square, forming a triangle of bell sound around the public. The sound is processed and transformed to a unique surround experience. The piece had its premiere during the Stavanger Capital of Culture year 2008.
This is a production of Norsk Orgel Festival.
